Set in a dystopian future, Bambini Bonsai tells the story of Pepe, a young man who grows up in a Genoa devastated by a natural disaster that altered the climate and destroyed the local flora and fauna. The city is now part of a megalopolis stretching along the Ligurian coast and dominated by enormous buildings and a searing climate. The survivors of the catastrophe live in a shantytown on the site of the former Staglieno cemetery. The adult protagonist recounts his childhood, when, during the rainy season, a group of children embarked on a long journey in search of a lost world. The rain represents a catastrophic event that enables them to discover a magical, utopian world. In this context, the author explores the mysteries of childhood, friendship, love and death with great stylistic inventiveness.
