How We Will Get Out of This (edited by Fabio Deotto) is a collection of speculative fiction that explores the future of our world in 2040 through contributions from eight Italian and international authors. Blending analysis and imagination, the book considers current issues and dynamics, such as the climate crisis, migration, labour and authoritarianism, in the context of the future. Written as if they were reports from 2030–2040, each chapter reflects on how civilisation dealt with the global emergencies of the 1920s and managed to avoid total collapse. Rather than depicting a finish line, the narrative portrays a landing in progress — a journey that continues to redefine our existence and the boundaries of the world. It is a work that casts the shadow of the present onto an uncertain future.
