It is a book born from a collective writing experiment led by Wu Ming 1 in the southern part of the Ferrara area. Set in the lowlands of the Po Valley, between Ferrara, Rovigo, and the coast, the volume imagines a near future in which the Adriatic Sea, driven by climate change, has reclaimed lands that were drained over centuries. In this artificial and fragile landscape, destined to disappear, stories unfold set at the end of the century — among Afro-Padan islands, hybrid languages, and communities suspended between utopia and fatalism. Wu Ming 1 opens the book with a text about the territory, its ghosts — drained marshes, abandoned riverbeds, once-flourishing farms — and the role of literature in the era of climate crisis. The project is part of the broader Blues for the New Lands, as a first step toward imagining what lies ahead and preparing to face the irreversible.
